Cleats Report is a research-based publication. We do not buy, wear or physically test every pair of cleats we write about. Instead, we compare what manufacturers publish with what buyers report, and we say clearly when a conclusion rests on that kind of evidence.
What we look at
- Manufacturer specifications: upper material, stud or cleat pattern, weight, closure system and the sport and surface a model is designed for, as published by brands and retailers.
- Customer reviews: patterns in what buyers report about fit, comfort, break-in time, durability and traction. We look for points that many buyers agree on rather than single opinions.
- Sizing information: brand size charts and recurring remarks on whether a model runs small, large, narrow or wide.
- Prices and availability: retailer prices where we show them. Prices change often, so always check the retailer before you buy.
How we compare cleats
We group cleats by sport, playing surface, position and budget, then compare the models in each group on the evidence above. Rankings and recommendations are editorial judgments based on that research. They are not laboratory results.
What we do not claim
We do not claim hands-on testing of a product unless a review says so explicitly. If a page does not say we tested a product ourselves, assume the information comes from specifications and customer feedback.
